Description
The Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra! The man who truly needs no introduction. The voice of this multitalented Actor Vocalist and Humanitarian first became known back in the 1930's, while sound recording was still in its infancy. Frank quickly adapted to the new technology, singing into a microphone as if he was directly singing to each person in the audience. ( More.... )
In the 60's Frank teamed up with his friends Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. forming the 60's version of the Rat Pack. Frank had a very special relationship with Sammy Davis. He considered him as more than just a friend. He often referred to him as a brother. At that time, racism was more prevalent than today in the United States. On several occasions, Sammy Davis was not allowed to perform in certain venues along with Dean and Frank, simply because of his race. Frank refused to perform at any venue without Sammy Davis. Given Frank's status and popularity, they had no choice but to allow Sammy Davis to sing at the venues.
Frank Sinatra died at the age of 82 on May 4th, 1998, a day of mourning all over the world. In honor of Frank Sinatra, many radio stations across the United States played 72 hours of uninterrupted Sinatra music. The thought of losing Frank Sinatra was so shocking to everyone to the point where people had difficulty getting through the day. Some businesses actually closed and some classes cancelled.
At night, the Empire State building in New York City bathed itself in blue lights in memory of Frank.
And now in his memory, here is a very special song to me by Frank Sinatra called, "Cycles". Another song that he did exclusively "His Way"!! This song describes the importance of hope at the darkest points of your life. At a time where there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel, Frank is creating hope by convincing himself that life is a cycle. After winter comes the spring. "So I'll keep this smile awhile, and see what tomorrow brings". "I'll keep on trying to sing, but please, just don't ask me now"....
Lyrics:
So I'm down and so I'm out
But so are many others
So I feel like tryin' to hide
My head 'neath these covers
Life is like the seasons
After winter comes the spring
So I'll keep this smile awhile
And see what tomorrow brings
I've been told and I believe
That life is meant for livin'
And even when my chips are low
There's still some left for givin'
I've been many places
Maybe not as far as you
So I think I'll stay awhile
And see if some dreams come true
There isn't much that I have learned
Through all my foolish years
Except that life keeps runnin' in cycles
First there's laughter, then those tears
But I'll keep my head up high
Although I'm kinda tired
My gal just up and left last week
Friday I got fired
You know it's almost funny
But things can't get worse than now
So I'll keep on tryin' to sing
But please, just don't ask me now
