Description

Song is "Lucy Battle" from the Everhood 2 OST.

Prob my favorite song/fight from Everhood 2. Actually, it's probably one of my favorites even including Everhood 1. Up there with the blue man fight (why oh you are l-o-v-e) (youtu.be/zGjShXARO18). Second rage stage tornado slams reminds me of Dev Gnomes fist slams. I honestly don't remember if I ever beat Dev Gnomes, I remember trying. Definitely don't think I beat Cat God without switching to easy or something.

Aside from this battle I also really liked Rasputin (will likely upload an extended version of that, but I want the drinking SFX so I need to go and record it ingame I think), and... well nothing else stands in my memory at the moment. The Great Tomato fight was cool with its Goosebumps reference notes.

i was supposed to be wearing the hot dog hat but i accidentally unequiped it apparently and didnt notice

I enjoyed the first game a ton and really loved all the music, so when I saw the reveal for a sequel I figured it'd be a buy on launch purchase.

Surprisingly, I ended up fence-sitting on buying it - the Next Fest demo put me off. I wasn't sure about the RPG mechanics and the demo has repeating battles with enemies in the world, it just did NOT work, repeating the same battle intros over and over wasn't fun... but I could see it getting better later on, so I was 50/50 whether to play or wait awhile. Then I watched the trailer and saw the baddie slimegirl and yeah at that point there wasn't any question lol.

Well, the game delivered, both on the gameplay and the slimegirl (needed more screentime tho rip). The ability to kill people instantly combined with the ability to stack notes up indefinitely made it more like a typical rhythm game where you need to move into notes and press a button in sync, altho with an additional aspect of choosing which notes to go for and whether or not to risk building up an attack further.

I don't think the RPG mechanics really added anything to the game, but it didn't hinder or hurt it like I was concerned about. I did find it quite intriguing as an idea, though. I can see it working out, just, not as it was done here, it needs to look different and be more focused on. I don't know what that might really look like.

I'd like to see games in different genres try adopting rhythm-game inspired mechanics as a building block of their designs, specifically RPGs or any story focused game with gameplay. I suppose you could reduce the definition and say many games do (like, if you say Sekiro is a rhythm game, which, yeah, kinda is for the bosses), but I'm thinking more literally. I feel like I must have played games like this but nothing comes to mind. Does Everhood stand alone?

People are complaining about this game's story, but it didn't bother me. Personally, I didn't remember or think back too fondly on Everhood 1's story and didn't have any expectations or big interest in it here. Even so tho, I felt offput by the ending so I do get the complaints.

I know I missed some side content (like the ending of the aliens arc), but idk if I feel like going back for it. I might just waltz through the battle hallway and do any fights that I didn't see in my playthrough.
