ABOUT the concert:
2011 was a special year for Esperanza Spalding. Surprisingly, the singer/bassist won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist and at the Boston Music Awards she was chosen as Jazz Artist of the Year. Great recognition for the 27-year-old American who had won over true jazz lovers and mainstream listeners alike with her album Chamber Music Society (2010). Radio Music Society, released in March, is the follow-up to Spalding's much-praised album and features a wealth of well-known guest artists, including saxophonist Joe Lovano, rapper Q-Tip and legendary drummers Billy Hart and Jack DeJohnette. "All my personal heroes who are revered in the jazz world […] should be heard by a mainstream audience," Spalding explains. "What they manifest in their music is so beautiful, sincere and uplifting." A demonstration of the diversity and open mind that make Spalding the phenomenon she is: young, creative, talented and with an eye for pure musical beauty.
