Description
It is hardly a revelation to say that the music closest to Elvis’ heart was Gospel music and this is often reflected both in his interpretation and arrangements of secular tracks both in his back catalogue and live renditions. Three albums in the genre were recorded by Elvis, not to mention the spiritual songs included in his live repertoire.
However, whilst the albums were recorded in the sixties and seventies, a handful of non-seasonal gospel tracks were recorded by Elvis in the fifties. Of the four regular Gospel songs that he recorded, all in January 1957, Peace In The Valley is probably his most famous and significant.
Correctly titled (There’ll Be) Peace In the Valley (For Me), it was the final song that Elvis performed over his three Ed Sullivan show appearances. The footage of that performance has featured in countless documentaries and is often cited as Elvis showing the world there was another side to Elvis Presley. This rendition is included in this compilation.
Elvis recorded the song on 13 January 1957 at Radio Recorders’ Studio One in Hollywood, meaning that the Ed Sullivan rendition was performed first, in New York on 6 January, exactly a week earlier!
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
