Description
Cantus is a Norwegian choir based in Trondheim, Norway.
One of their songs is "Eatnamen Vuelie" (Song of the Earth).
It was originally written in1996, was for a Christmas record.
Its composer, Frode Fjellheim, rewrote the song for the opening
seconds of the film "Frozen". The song is also used at the end
of the film during "The Great Thaw". We are using it in Musical
Theatre-- just like we use Ka Pule A Ka Haku, the Zulu words
in opening the verse of Lion King's "Circle of Life", and just like
we use Scat Singing and singing in Cirquish, in French, and in
Italian, and just like we use Improvs, Scene Studies, and more
-- to develop a basic skill of Musical Theatre, Verbal Fluency.
This video is at normal, 100%, speed. There are two other videos
a slow one at 60% speed and a medium speed one 80%
of normal speed.
"Vuelie" feels a little like an African chant. It was inspired
by indigenous Sámi and Scandinavian cultures and infuses a
haunting, evocative, and mysterious feeling when it is used
in Disney's "Frozen".
The phonetic lyrics are
Na na na hey yana;
na hey yaha naha.
Na hey-a hey-a na ya new wa
hana hey you new wana.
(3 more repetitions. After the 2nd repetition~ Ha ha ya.)
(After instrumental/piano break)
Na na na hey yana;
na hey yaha naha.
Na hey-a hey-a na ya new wa
hana hey you new wana. Ha ha ya.
Na na hey yana;
ha hey yaha naha.
Na hey-a hey-a na ya new wa.
(Repeat once more)
Hana hey you new wana.
"Let It Go", written by the genius husband and wife
writing team of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez,
is performed in the film by powerhouse Idina Menzel
in her role as Queen Elsa, The lyrics include the lines
"My power flurries through the air into the ground.
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around."
The pictures in our little practice video are fractals.
