Description
First tune (and first cover using brushes) on a new (new to me) vintage 1971 Rogers maple kit that I spent this summer reconditioning. MUCH larger than the Pearl Forum Series kit. Recording equipment is same. Akai EIE Pro, 2 Samson CO2 mics, Reaper for the track recordings and then VideoPad to put the video on top.
I decided to buy some brushes myself and try it out. I realized that using brushes on a kit is not easy, and very different than sticks. For one thing, it's hard to hear whether the brushes are being used properly when you're using isolation headphones.
In the end, I decided to cover the master recording of the song, which does NOT use brushes (but Ian's pick has a rhythmic sound reminiscent of the brushes). The song seems to be recorded with with sticks, and probably merged separate tracks. I decided to stick with the brushes since I was kind of "all in" at that point, and kind of wanted to use the brushes to learn how to use them properly.
All IPR belongs to current owners of material. This song is a an educational tribute (brushes), and a tribute to Echo and the Bunnymen. There is no profit or gain from this material by the cover artist.
