Description
Here’s my cover of Breakdown by Swedish pop/fusion/jazz/progressive trio Dirty Loops! This song is off of their 2020 EP "Phoenix". Jonah, Henrik, and Aron are all virtuosos at their respective instruments and I highly suggest you purchase the new EP like I did, it's incredible! I can't post this without giving credit to Simon Petrén either, the man responsible for the mindblowing mix on this album. This was the first and only take that I recorded.
Some things to note:
0:00 - This is best enjoyed with good speakers or headphones. Also, syncing issues only seem to occur on mobile devices.
0:00 - You can hear the original drum performance come through in the mix when there are discrepancies between my playing and the song.
0:57 - There is a flam on the first tom hit of this fill, but I didn't play it. Oops!
2:01 - I muted the hi-hat mic in Steven Slate and used the overheads only
2:47 - Put the album art over the video during the drumless interlude so you don't have to watch me bob my head like an idiot.
3:30 - Should've played that fill around the kit. Damn it all!
4:42 - A quick zoom in on my drumming face that always looks like I'm in moderate to severe pain.
4:57 - I did a quick drag rather than the 16th triplets that are supposed to go here!
5:06 - My crashes are rather quiet when I’m not replicating the hits of the original take. I have the backing song cranked!
5:14 - Missed that double hit on the bass drum and the odd cymbal accent here and there.
The gear list:
Roland TD-30KV triggering Steven Slate Drums 5
Presonus Studio One 3 Professional
Shure SE846-CL In-ear Monitors
Vic Firth 5AX Sticks
GoPro Hero 9 Black
Enjoy!
