Red Planet: Unlike the colorful spectacle on Earth with its yellow, orange, red, and violet tones, a sunset on Mars is a fabulous blue affair. In addition, the sun appears about a third smaller because Mars is further away from it than the Earth.

The blue color is a consequence of the light scattering by dust particles. The excellent dust has the right size so that short-wave blue parts of sunlight can penetrate through the Martian atmosphere better than the longer-wave red ones.
