Veteran gospel artist Deitrick Haddon reunites with his Voices of Unity Choir (aka V.O.U.) that cranked out hits such as “Who is Like Our God?” and “He’s Able” in the early 2000s. Back in 1997, Haddon released the original version of this track with his then-wife, Damita, as the soloist, showcasing her cascading soprano. It was a slow-burning urban track that appealed to church-going young adults back in the 1990s. Over two decades have passed and Haddon has updated it for Gen Z and beyond. This new incarnation has the same simmering backbeat, but he brings in volcanic vocalist Tasha Page-Lockhart to sing alongside Damita as Deitrick serves as emcee. The two divas trade verses in the first half of the track. In the second half, the song takes on a new flavor with Damita testifying about her cancer diagnosis while Tasha exhorts her and the listener to hold on to their faith. It is a heartfelt twist on an established underground contemporary gospel classic.
