So I did a few takes of this classic one hit wonder! This is my second take. There were a few technical glitches with my latter more dialed in takes that didn’t allow me to share my favorite version.

But this was take, which is not perfect to the record, sound best! This is how I would react to the music if it was counted off on the bandstand and I had to play it with no preparation! I have done those types of gigs my entire career! Being able to lock into the bass player, keep tight and greasy groove, and add in some of the missing percussion components was my first approach. The original drummer let the conga player play the rumba/cha cha 4& in the chorus. But I thought it made the dancers dance better. It’s all about can they dance and does it groove!

Oh well, I hope you learned something about getting a through a gig without practice or even hearing a song. This was my second time playing the song ever!
