Latin rendition of the Greek folk poem "Του νεκρού αδελφού". The same folk story exists in other languages and peoples of the Balkans too, and its origins are lost in the depths of time.
The Greek poem is in iambic 15-syllable verse, and the Latin rendition follows that, nevertheless by altering the default rules of Classical Latin syllabification to more or less those of my native Greek ear. Exemplīs grātia, the unstressed "ia" occupies the place of one syllable, "ve" can be either one or 2 syllables according to the needs of the meter, and elision is similarly applied or not according to the needs of the meter.
