It's a love story between scholar PAN Bizheng and nun CHEN Miaochang.At the beginning the South-Song Dynasty, CHEN Miaochang fleed from war and became a nun in a Taoist temple outside Nankin city. Young Scholar PAN Bizheng whose aunt is the abbot, wouldn't go back home after the failure in imperial exams and lived in this temple.He met CHEN Miaochang by chance and shocked by her divine beauty.CHEN fell in love with him ignoring the taoist doctrine.

In Kunqu Opera there are also women playing the man role.
