Description
Michael Derrico, Stephen Knott, and Zachary Peaslee playing Chiapanecas by Rafael Méndez at Michael's senior recital held in West Virginia University's Museum Education Center on April 2, 2018.
Program Notes: Rafael Méndez was born in Jiquilpan, Mexico where his musical training began at age five when his father needed a trumpet player in the family orchestra. Méndez, at an early age, developed a severe asthma problem. He overcame this setback by practicing and performing his trumpet more frequently which in turn healed over time. This trio is a great showcase for Spanish-flavored trumpet and is also the informal anthem in the city of Chiapas, Mexico.
