Description
NOTE: California Ramblers was one the most poular dance and jazz bands of ther Roaring Twenties. For their recordings under various labels, they used almost a hundred of aliases (e.g. University Six, Varsity Eight, The Goofus Five, The Harmonians, Denza Dance Band, El Lloyd and His Orchestra, The Collegians, Imperial Dance Orchestra, Golden Gate Orchestra). They were musicians from Ohio, who in the Roaring Twenties were extremely popular under name of "California Ramblers" although, no one of them originated from West Bank. They thought, however, people would be more inclined to listen to the band having "California" instead of "Ohio" in its name. Many first row musicians were associated with the band - Red Nichols, Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Elwood Madeo Jr., California Ramblers' manager was Ed Kirkeby - one of the most influential figures of the Jazz Age.
