Let it be known that Natalie W. say’s Boney James is a sax-playing romanticist and has the ingredients in his music to make sure the ladies have some sweet night dreams. Any musician who enlists singer Al Jarreau on his tracks certainly knows how to “woo-woo-woo”, as they say!

Boney James, born under the name James Oppenheim, was initially interested in the clarinet but switched his interest to the saxophone when he was 10 years old. Heavy-influenced by R&B and the music of saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., Boney learned to play the keyboards and joined Morris Day’s band in 1985. From there, he toured with the Isley Brothers, Bobby Caldwell, Randy Crawford, Teena Marie, to name a few. It was his affiliation with Singer Bobby Caldwell, which brought Boney to recording/releasing his debut album, “Trust”, in 1992. The album, “Sweet Thing”, was released in 1997. Over the years, Boney has released 14 albums and sold over 3 million records. Billboard magazine named James the No. 3 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Artist of the Decade in 2009. He is a four-time Grammy Award nominee and a Soul Train Award winner (Best Jazz Album 1998). He has also been honored with two NAACP Image Award nominations for Best Jazz Album, and has accumulated four RIAA Certified Gold Records. Boney James newest album, “Futuresoul” was released May 5th.
