Description
Atlanta Master Chorale sang Eric Nelson's "Birdsong" at our "Immortal Fire" concerts on April 29 & 30, 2022 at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
Background: Have you ever been surrounded by a lively conversation, but you weren't sure that you had anything to say? In this poem by the Persian poet, Rumi, he notices the excited chattering of birdsong, and declares, 'I am as ecstatic as they are!' He is ready to and willing to engage with the world, but he isn't sure how to contribute. He feels that he has 'nothing to say.' In the second part of the poem, he breathes a prayer, asking God, the "Universal Soul", to please give him words to say and a song to sing.
Conductor: Dr. Eric Nelson | Accompanist: Jonathan Easter | Solo: Perry Houck, Soprano
