It is fitting that Jeannie Seely ("Miss Country Soul") achieved her first success as a songwriter with a song that Irma Thomas ("The Soul Queen of New Orleans") recorded and made a pop and R&B hit titled "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is (Will Understand)".
In 1964, Jeannie was working for Imperial Records in Hollywood, the label on which Irma recorded at the time. "Anyone Who Knows What Love Is" debuted on the Billboard R&B singles chart on June 27, 1964, and the following week (July 4, 1964) it debuted on the Billboard pop singles chart. The song was included on Irma's album titled "Take A Look", and it has subsequently been included on her albums "Time Is On My Side", "Sweet Soul Queen Of New Orleans", and "Straight From The Soul".
Jeannie Seely received a Grammy Award in 1967, and 40 years later Irma Thomas finally received a Grammy Award as well.
