This is a tribute both to Sarah McLachlan's beautiful song and to the many wonderful artists and humans we've lost to substance abuse and mental health struggles over the years. Far too many.

The song was originally written in 1996 after the passing of keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin who was touring with the Smashing Pumpkins when he succumbed to an overdose. It was released in 1997 on Sarah's massively successful album Surfacing.

I hope this performance serves to reflect on the struggles far too many of us go through every day, often quietly in the shadows. It's not easy. Remember to check on your friends and reach out to someone if you yourself are struggling with addiction or mental health.
