The song " Adeus a Fátima" (Farewell to Fatima) is an homage to Our Lady of Fatima, the Virgin Mary, who is an important figure in the Catholic faith and is believed to have appeared to three children at Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. During these apparitions, Our Lady conveyed messages and revealed prophecies to the little shepherds about future events. The lyrics themselves reflect the devotion and love of the faithful to the Virgin of Fatima, who has a shrine dedicated to her in the city in question. The song begins by praising Our Lady as the "Virgin of the Rosary" and the "Queen of Portugal", emphasising her role as the protector of both Portugal and all of humanity. She is seen as a maternal figure who intercedes on behalf of the faithful through Our Lord. Throughout the song, the refrain is repeated with the verses "Oh Fatima, Farewell! / Virgin Mother, Farewell!", which alludes to an emotional and hopeful farewell, and that with Our Lady's protection and grace, the devotee will be blessed and guided.

This lament also relates to the event that happened on 13 October 1917. This day marked not only the last Marian apparition in Fatima, but was also witnessed by thousands of people, "The Miracle of the Sun", also known as the "Miracle of Fatima". A miracle that shattered the prevailing belief at the time that God was no longer relevant. According to many witnesses (both believers and sceptics), after a period of rain, the dark clouds parted and the Sun appeared as an opaque, spinning disc in the sky, appearing to fall towards the Earth and casting multicoloured lights over the landscape, people and surrounding clouds. According to witness reports, this solar phenomenon lasted approximately ten minutes before returning to its normal position in a zigzag pattern. The three little shepherds also claimed to have seen the Holy Family, then Jesus with Our Lady of Sorrows and, finally, Our Lady of Mount Carmel blessing the crowd from the firmament.

Um milagre que abalou a crença predominante na altura de que Deus já não era relevante. Segundo muitas testemunhas (tanto fiéis como cépticos), após um período de chuva, as nuvens escuras desfizeram-se e o Sol apareceu como um disco opaco e giratório no céu, parecendo cair em direção à Terra, e a lançar luzes multicoloridas sobre a paisagem, as pessoas e as nuvens circundantes. De acordo com relatórios das testemunhas este fenómeno solar durou aproximadamente dez minutos, antes de voltar à sua posição normal em ziguezague. Os três pastorinhos afirmaram ainda terem visto a Sagrada Família, depois Jesus com a Nossa Senhora das Dores e, por fim, Nossa Senhora do Carmo a abençoar a multidão a partir do firmamento.
