Take a look inside this hauntingly beautiful baroque church. ⛪️🇩🇪

Asamkirche or Asam Church is a compact Baroque church located in Munich on a bustling shopping street (Sendlinger Staße).

It was built from 1733 to 1746 by a pair of brothers, sculptor Egid Quirin Asam and painter Cosmas Damian Asam to use as their private church. The property is approximately 22 x 8 meters.

4 homes were purchased by the brother and two of the homes were demolished and built into Asamkirche.

The church while narrow, is intentionally designed to become more illuminated from the ground up with natural light from the windows. The bottom of the church represents the sorrows of mankind and the ceiling representing closeness with God and heaven.

Eventually the brothers were forced to open up the church to public use due to public pressure.

It’s a gorgeous piece of artwork that you can’t miss while in Munich.
