Teresa Teng first recorded this song in島國之情歌第四集香港之歌 Island Love Songs Album Number 4 (1977/Polydor) and made it as famous as another of her signature songs, Tian Mi Mi, in the Chinese-speaking world. This is the only song in this album that is not originally from a Japanese original, as opposed to the rest of the “island” love songs. Whenever this song is heard, however, most people are unaware that it was originally sung by Taiwan’s Chen Fen-lan (陳芬蘭) who was considered on-par with Japan’s Hibari Misora (u ひばり) in around 1972. It was believed that the sweet melody of this song softened the hearts and opened the eyes of many mainland Chinese after the tumultuous period of the Cultural Revolution. Many mainland Chinese for the first time in a very long time realized what a true love song was supposed to be. The Moon is always there, meaning that those who love us are always present, whether seen or not, and their love of you is everlasting, just like yours to them. The love mentioned here can be the love from a man to a woman, from a husband to a wife, from a friend to a friend or from a child to a parent. This is one of the most famous love songs in Asia, and is the theme song of the movie "When Harry Met Sally". Kenny G also plays it instrumentally in his concerts and his 2006 album "I'm In The Mood of Love: The Most Romantic Melodies of All Time". In place of the sound track of the current video is the version released in February 2008 in the CD set, "A Legend Is Born" (Universal Music Ltd Hong Kong).
