※八丈島に全島避難した青ヶ島の人々が数十年の歳月を乗り越え、荒波を越えて「還住」を果たした史実にインスピレーションを得て想像力を膨らませた物語です。流れはおおむね史実に沿っていますが、完全なノンフィクションではありません。
※青ヶ島とメビウスは本来全く関係ありません。「どんな困難があっても必ず元の故郷に帰る」という次郎大夫と島民の強い意志が、「必ず元の場所に戻ってくる」メビウスの輪が私のイメージの中で重なったため象徴的に使っています。
※この物語の主人公である、青ヶ島島民のリーダー、名主の佐々木次郎大夫は動画では女性になっていますが、史実では男性です。
【The Blue Möbius Island】
*This story was inspired by the historical fact that the people of Aogashima Island, who had evacuated to Hachijojima Island, overcame decades of hardship and rough seas to return to their homeland. The story is largely based on historical facts, but it is not entirely non-fiction.
※Aogashima and Möbius are not inherently related. The strong will of Jirodafu(leader of islanders) and the islanders to ‘return to their original homeland no matter what difficulties they face’ resonated with the Möbius strip, which symbolises ‘returning to the original place,’ in my imagination, leading to its symbolic use.
※The protagonist of this story, Jirodafu Sasaki, the leader of the Aogashima islanders, is portrayed as a woman in the video, but in historical records, he was a man.
